There are two things you should know before importing contacts into SmartSimple.

1. Users are internal to the organization and can have their own set of custom fields. Contacts are external to the organization and can also have their own set of custom fields.

2. External contacts cannot be imported to the root organization. Therefore, when you attempt to import contacts to the root, you will only be able to select 'import user' and only the user custom fields will be displayed if there are any. Hence, an organization must exist at a lower level in the external hierarchy order for the “import contacts” option to appear on the menu and the custom fields associated with the contacts will appear as well.
